Humboldt Squid is Marc Brown and Mark Quinn. Humboldt Squid formed in Los Angeles in December of 2004. They rehearsed for a year before recording their debut record. The record was mixed at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco by Justin Phelps. Humboldt Squid independently released their record in the summer of 2006.
Humboldt Squid's debut release exposes the psychedelic experimental underground music scene of Santa Cruz California, the surf, skate and snowboard capital of the world. Grinding together contemporary influences like Mars Volta and Queens of the Stone Age with the famous hippy dropout culture of Northern California creates a unique sound.
Songwriter Marc Brown invites you to gasp at the amazing dynamic ride that is life and to laugh at its absurdity. Humboldt Squid's brand of rock evokes desert highways, rock mountains and glassy moonlit surf. The two piece arrangements are raw and always maintain a punk credibility. Vacuum tube technology, analog synths and vintage drums were used exclusively on the album to give it a timeless warmth. This is the future.
